Ilgi Adalan defines his own being with an artistic identity that is insistent and contains a strong belief in his art; forming his life upon this reality. For him, everything and especially "plastic materials" are elements that mediate creation and recreation. For Ilgi Adalan, art means deciphering ones own creative identity and reforming that identity by redefining it.
Ceramics is also a field that the mankind has used for ages in which the earth is turned into and takes a new dimension with aesthetics and art. By being a tool that carries civilization into the future, it has always been the carrier of culture and civilization during time. Ceramics was of course defined and used in more day to day and rational means in the beginning. During the period that we can call classic ceramic era, these pots were produced from clay or mud to store things inside them. "From its start and progress, Classical Ceramic Art is defined as formation and baking of clay in an artistic manner in order to make all kinds of utensils for basic needs. Today, the reality of ceramic art has emerged from pottery that was founded by primitive man to overcome the needs for pots."3 Even though the ceramics seems like a tool or a detail that makes mankind's daily life easier and more comfortable, its importance was revealed with its role in carrying culture and civilization to the present.
Artist Ilgi Adalan, evaluating ceramics with all its dimensions and possibilities, has created "architectural panels" with the use the characteristics of the material and his creative identity. These should also be evaluated as a dimension of his work. During the ages mankind has designed its civilization within the reality of its space. This space can be where he lives as well as big military and religious buildings that he can crown himself, his splendor and the future. The inner and outer walls of this architecture were usually decorated and crowned by embossed designs that we call reliefs. We know that these embossments usually cover epic heroism, successes and distinguished historical superiority stories. Because the aim was to create a heroic epic, it has always been the heroic epics of rulers and the elite.
Ilgi Adalan's ceramic panels or relief ceramics come out as a distinguished dimension that puts forward a unique style that merges visual design with the architectural structure making them different from the relief’s that were created throughout history. But I think the thing that makes these panels unique and distinguished is that they would be redesigned according to the properties of the building while it is built, as well as the unique approach and style of the artist.
