Ilgi Adalan defines his own being with an artistic identity that is insistent and contains a strong belief in his art; forming his life upon this reality. For him, everything and especially "plastic materials" are elements that mediate creation and recreation. For Ilgi Adalan, art means deciphering ones own creative identity and reforming that identity by redefining it.

PRO-ENGRAVINGS AND AESTHETIC WORRIES

llgi Adalan's works as a whole stands out as openings to his multi talented artistic identity as well as different aesthetic categories and transformations. The artistic phases of the artist signals to a dramatic design and aesthetic worry that contain intense work and sincerity. The humane side that accompanies the composition understanding and technique, starts and develops with a figurative story. First of all his own conscious and existence is present in all his works. Of course, in the pro-engravings that stresses his painter side more, this conscious existence and figure centered technical interpretation quality enables us to see him above a certain plane. These works complete their formation as works that reflect conscious workmanship and unique perfection. All the unique aspects of the material is enriched and finds a visual opening that feeds from an interpretation that is created by the technical ability and artistic dimension of its creator.

The human-nature integrity and the uniqueness of the figurative expression quickly meet the eye. The striking dynamic atmosphere is composed in a lyrical design integrity that creates a sensual enthusiasm in those who try to find aesthetic integrity. In one of Adalan's exhibitions, Maximillien Gauthier who came to see the artist's pro-engravings said: "The artist has digested and adopted the nature philosophy so deeply that he has successfully managed to reflect the abstract inertia of moving objects in his work." For a strong figure designer who came from a tradition that is dependent on figure, for a master expressionist who matured in Cemal Tollu figure tradition, these engravings stand out as unique expressions of a dramatic nature-human integrity with a technical perfection. Correct evaluation of the light, composition of space with a technical ability, a top level domination over the line and exhibiting all these with a style of integrity reveals itself as an approach that gives importance to aesthetics and visual worries.

Ilgi Adalan has never been a captive of the material and interpreted it in conjunction with a plastic worry that bears the necessary harsh realities of an artistic mission. He always pursued a digested and spiritual unique aesthetics in his expression efforts that were always present in his pro-engravings, panels, pots, dishes and ceramic statues. For a figure master, for an identity with a high artistic interpretation skill, his works and presentations have always been only artistic from the very start. Becoming famous as a ceramic artist was of course due to knowing ceramics and clay very well and the three dimensional delight and aesthetic enthusiasm of shaping mud; but in my opinion, the most significant reason of this is revealed in his pro-engravings, and this is doing something that does not contradict him, something what he loves and believes in. This love has shown him the most suitable path within the integrity of his artistic identity. Thus he has never fallen into a conflict between his character and works.

And his pro-engravings are in front of us as sincere and unique diversities of his artistic formation.Along with the technical ability and perfection, the nature-human integrity that is enriched with metaphoric expressions can be seen in these engravings. This world of metaphors that is abstracted with style and carrying multi-layered context levels within the inner dynamics of the design, took up and evaluated the technique, line, figure, composition within the dimension of authenticity. This is in accordance with Adalan's technique first approach. Because whatever the artistic work and expression type, the important thing for Adalan is the level of technique and finding a unique expression style. Anyway if an artwork does not contain the proper technique it can not express a unique style. With this side of his perfectionist character, he puts forward his artistic mission not only in engraving but also almost in all his works, especially in ceramics.
